
Founded in 2014, Wimrob Bee Company Limited is a Ugandan owned business located in Lira, Northern Uganda, with honey hubs/collection centers in West Nile, Acholi, Lango, Teso and Karamoja. The company processes and sells UNBS Q-level certified honey with brand names of African Queen Honey and Lango Premium Honey which come in various brands and packages. Other products include beeswax, bee propolis powder, royal jelly and bee venom powder.
Wimrob has a wide network of bee keepers and processers across Northern Uganda and has actively trained over 3,200 bee keepers, setting up 20 community learning apiaries, and supplying about 600 KTB hives with accessories among others.
Wimrob works with smallholder farmers that provide raw materials to process and sell certified honey to local & international markets, as well as local supermarkets, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics factories, hotels, colleges, clinics and individuals. The social enterprise works with 3,900 smallholder farmers that provide raw materials to process and sells certified honey with brand names of African Queen Honey and Lango Premium Honey, Beeswax & Bee Venom Powder.
The Agri-SME also offers support and training in the rural areas in order to increase the livelihood of the poor, sales its starter kit which includes a bee hive with a colony of bees, a bee suits, smoker, hive tool, bee brush, air tight honey bucket, bee hand gloves and bee baits to bee keepers as a way of building confidence with them but also encourage the bee keepers to care for their own bees and produce quality honey.
Wimrob also offers classes to school going children and parents on the school bee farm on how to care for the bees, produce and bottle / store and honey products, works in poor and war-torn communities by diligently initiating and supporting OVC-programs (Orphans and Vulnerable Children), Female empowerment, enhancing bio-diversity
The enterprise joined the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility in 2022 when the call for applications was rolled out. It is among the 18 Agri-SMEs that were selected for the first investment advisory cycle. Finding XY established the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility to accelerate early growth stage of SMEs investment using a blend of instruments and a gender lens approach through bridge financing cover and loan-discount approach using Covid relief investment support.
