Agriculture is the backbone of economies in sub-Saharan. However the level of mechanization is still low. Its presents a good opportunity for investment given the good climate, fertile soils, lots of accessible land and growing population. The cost of production is lower than most regions of the world.
Finding XY together with Hope Development Initiative (HDI) "Maama Rice" identified the challenges and solutions to mechanizing agriculture in northern Uganda.
HDI started as social program to empower women affected by the 20 years’ war in Northern Uganda from gender based violence. The group that started with 20 women in 2008 later grew to over 10,000 members in 8 districts in Northern Uganda. The membership includes: women, youth and 20% men. HDI envisage transformed and prosperous communities. It is on a mission to see farmers improve their harvests, pull them out of poverty, start producing surplus food for their neighbors. When farmers prosper, they eradicate poverty and hunger in their communities.
