God’s Care Rice Processors Limited is an Agri-SME that specializes in the production and supply of white and brown rice. The enterprise started that started in 2015, ventured into rice growing in 2018, formalizing its major business focus on production of both white and brown rice and supply of rice brand.

Since inception, the Agri-SME has engaged with women and youth of 20 farmer groups which have 25-35 farmers each, to run activities of growing, processing, packaging and marketing of rice from Mubuku II irrigation scheme.
“We start with the farmers from the initial stage of growing the rice. We give them business advisory services, trainings and financial support which helps them to boost their business. We also support them with transportation of produce from the garden to the factory during the harvest season,” Mbambu, founder of God’s Care Rice Processors narrated.

According to Mbambu, the inaccessibility of market for the rice farmers even when they operate on a large scale, inspired her to start the enterprise.
“Initially, we could grow the rice and fail to get market for it,” she says, adding, “it occurred to me that starting the enterprise create market for the farmers and indeed it is what we have done - we buy the rice from the farmers, hurl it, thereby solving the market problem.”  She further added that she started the enterprise to create employment opportunities for women who were educated but unemployed. The enterprise would enable them earn an income to improve their livelihoods.

The enterprise joined the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility in 2022 when the call for applications was rolled out. It is among the 16 Agri-SMEs that were selected for the first investment advisory cycle. Finding XY established the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility to accelerate early growth stage of SMEs investment using a blend of instruments and a gender lens approach through bridge financing cover and loan-discount approach using Covid relief investment support.

WAII is made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity and is implemented by Finding XY.
