Founded in 2010, Gloford Institute of Innovation, a subsidiary of Gloford Uganda is a social enterprise unit driving sustainable change in the post-war region of Uganda by tackling the root causes of poverty using transformation Models, agribusiness, innovations and technology.  The agribusiness supports farmers in production, post-harvest handling and marketing with a vision to establish a value addition as a short-term goal, and guarantee market value for the smaller holder farmers in the long term. Gloford works with 3322 farmers: 1872 male; 1450 female; and 1373 youth.

Through its partnership with Viable Imp act USA, Gloford is promoting the production of organic soy beans, maize, sorghum, sesame and sun flower farming in Kole, Alebtong, Oyam, Dokolo and Lira districts. Additionally, the value chain challenges are being addressed and this effort is poised to move 100% of the targeted farmers into the money economy with 90% estimated to cross into the middle-income economy by 2025.

Currently, GII has mobilized, organized, capacitating (MOC) 3,322 smallholder farmers who are earning an average gross income of 1 million shillings per season in 2020 where each farmer plants an average of 2 acres estimated to yield 450kg/acre. These smallholder farmers are trained on the agronomy of soil, beans and maize, climate-smart agricultural models, farming as a business, market management for small-holder farmers, and post-harvest handling.

Gloford joined the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility in 2022 when the call for applications was rolled out. It is among the 17 Agri-SMEs that were selected for the first investment advisory cycle. Finding XY established the Women in Agriculture Impact Investment (WAII) Facility to accelerate early growth stage of SMEs investment using a blend of instruments and a gender lens approach through bridge financing cover and loan-discount approach using Covid relief investment support.

WAII is made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Feed the Future Uganda Inclusive Agricultural Markets Activity and is implemented by Finding XY.
